Fanbirds

Fanbirds are delicate examples of woodcarving that originated in Europe (some people say Eastern Europe, while others say Scandinavia). The idea is that the craftsperson uses a single piece of wood to create the body and feathers of the bird, the latter of which are made by spreading thin sheets of wood connected to the body and interlocking them in an undulating form to give the impression of movement.
